What is ISO 9001?
First introduced in 1987, ISO 9001 is the pioneering international management system standard (MSS) that outlines the essential criteria for developing, implementing, operating, maintaining, and continuously improving a quality management system (QMS) within an organization. The most recent (5th) edition, known as ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems – Requirements, remains in effect. Following a survey of over 8,000 respondents, the ISO subcommittee for quality systems (ISO/TC 176/SC 2) confirmed in May 2021 that ISO 9001:2015 remains relevant and recommended no changes to the standard.
